Our Little Kingdoms

Every place has had at least one hideout, for watching the world, unwatched. Balconies. Terraces on sleepy golden-warm afternoons. Treetops; banyan trees in my school's campus with drooping rope-like roots and plenty of shade and squawking monkeys, and teachers below, passing by, talking formally, and the thrill of being unseen. Our little kingdoms where things are familiar and secret, where every stone and stain is home.

The photograph is of the IIMB water tank, taken at midnight, f 3.5, 10 secs, 30-50 mm lens, a timer and a shawl to steady the camera. I'm putting some up my snaps online, batch by batch, beginning here, and thou art most welcome O reader.

the writeup reminds me of my childhood days too.. when I used to spend hours on the terrace on top of a small protution on the wall called my "simhasan" .. from where me , the queen used to rule all my "people" -the plants and animals.. :) I am in the process of writing about it.. will put it up soon :)

The pic was just too good.. loved it

Do write about it O wise one. Maybe hideouts should be my research topic...They rock!

Thanks macha. How are you doing? I'm still struggling with Big Blue's processes, trying to get my relieving letter, escalating and so on. I'm doing a stint at IMS, setting up a scalable communications framework for them. Hopefully something more substantial will come up soon :) Good luck for Q1.

Mindblowing....I love this picture.Possibly I'm biased because of considerable attachment to the aforesaid watertank.I tried, last night, to take one of the "london lane" outside home.Horrible it turned out!Aiyooo! So I decided to indulge in some good ol' bit of narcissm(what else?:)to soothe the idignant self.

Wokay! It's all happening. Good luck, and let me know, if you can, where you're headed.

I love it too, although I think it's overexposed: the street-lamp has flared out a bit too much for my liking. I would have bracketed with 5,7 and 10 seconds but the man got up, looked at his watch and left. If you ever buy an SLR, don't buy the Nikon FM 10- it's a good basic SLR but its aperture limit of f 3.5 is crippling in low-light snaps.
